PRP Treatment for Joints

What is Platelet-Rich Plasma?

PRP or platelet-rich plasma is derived from concentrating platelets from your own blood. Platelets play a key role in healing and releasing your growth factors. The procedure starts with a simple blood draw. The blood is spun in a specialized centrifuge to separate the platelets from the rest of your blood. The highly concentrated platelets are injected to release your own natural growth factors to rejuvenate the desired tissue. Since we inject your own growth factors there is no risk of allergies and it is free of harmful side effects.

PRP For Joint Injections

We here at OMNI SCULPT MD in Dallas, Texas use platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to treat tendon irritations, tendinitis, and bursitis around the shoulder, knee, elbow, and ankle joints.

Steps for the joint injection procedure

  1. We identify the area of concern, then we examine it to locate the damaged tissue.
  2. First, blood is drawn. Using a centrifuge, we isolate the platelets from your blood, all within about 15 minutes. The platelets are then “activated” to release growth factors that will be used to heal injured tissue. These growth factors work to cause increased collagen and new blood flow.
  3. Using a numbing topical and a very small needle the platelet-rich plasma containing a high concentration of growth factors gets injected into the joint. These growth factors then activate a cellular response in the tissue, tricking them into thinking that there’s been an actual injury. By creating an inflammatory response, the body sends more of its own healing elements to that “injured” area. The result is the generation of new, younger tissue to replace the tissue that was torn or damaged.
