What Is PRF?
PRF, or platelet-rich fibrin, is an innovative treatment of platelet concentrate. PRF is composed of growth factors, cells, and platelet cytokines. The fibrin matrix is organized, efficiently directing healing.
How Does PRF Work?
The first step of PRF is to draw blood and send it to spin in a centrifuge. The spinning separates the white blood cells and platelets. Once the blood is separated, we place it into a syringe for treatment. PRF does not have any blood thinners or additives for a natural treatment.
PRF vs. PRP
Platelet-rich plasma is very similar to PRF. In both treatments, a blood sample is taken from the patient. A PRP blood sample is created with a centrifuge that spins much faster to separate the PRP from the rest of the blood. The centrifuge does not fully separate the platelets and blood cells to create a PRF serum. Since the slower spinning does not completely separate the different blood factors, it allows more white blood cells to stay in the platelet layer. The lower speed also causes less trauma to the individual blood cells. PRP serums have up to five times more platelets that are in the body, while PRF serums have up to 10 times more platelets.
PRF for Wrinkles
Many patients use PRF as a solution to fine lines and wrinkles. PRF is created with a high platelet concentration that maintains the fibrin matrix without anticoagulants. The slow release of PRF provides long-lasting results. You’ll notice a definite change in the skin as the fibrin matrix releases platelets.
