What is Hyperhidrosis and How Can Botox® Injections Help?

Excessive Sweating, medically known as Hyperhidrosis, is a condition that causes the body to produce more sweat than what is necessary for temperature regulation. Common areas of the body affected by hyperhidrosis include the hands, feet, underarms, and face. For some, this condition can be uncomfortable, annoying or even cause social anxiety. For others, excessive sweating can impact daily life.

Botox can be a safe and effective option to treat excessive sweating.

There is no hard and fast rule for how much sweating is considered “normal” or “excessive,” but if you feel like the amount of sweat your body produces is causing you distress and interfering with your daily life, botox injections for excessive sweating can help. Botox injections performed by an expert like Dr. Louis DeGironemo can greatly reduce excessive sweating in problematic areas of the body so you can live your life with confidence.

How Do Botox Injections for Excessive Sweating Work?

Botox® injections for excessive sweating work by blocking signals from the nerves that activate your body’s sweat glands. The nerves aren’t being damaged in any way – they just won’t tell your body to sweat the way they did before your Botox® injections.

During treatment, Botox® is injected directly into the areas of the body where excessive sweating needs to be curbed. This is a very localized approach that aims to only reduce sweating in very specific areas of the body, so surrounding areas should not be inadvertently affected.

You should start to feel a reduction in sweating within a few days. The full effect of the injections should become apparent within two weeks. Botox® for hyperhidrosis typically lasts for about 3 to 6 months. We recommend scheduling regular injections to maintain long-term results.
